Configuring the system

Your software requires information about your TEM and your camera(s). Set up your system with this in mind.

Preconditions

The software and camera(s) are installed and connected to the PC.

Overview - System Configuration

Configuring the system

1.Start the RADIUS software. To do this, double click this icon RADIUS_green on your desktop, for example.

Defining a hardware configuration

2.You can define the hardware configuration in the Device List dialog box. Use the Acquire > Devices > Device List... command to open the dialog box.

The first time the software opens, the Device List dialog box opens automatically.

3.Select your transmission electron microscope from the Microscope list.

In the Device List dialog box, the TEM tab now appears.

4.Select your camera(s) from the Side-mounted Camera and Bottom-mounted Camera lists (for example Veleta and Quemesa). If no camera is mounted in a certain position, select the Not used entry.

5.Only if you're using a sample holder that can be controlled by your software's remote control: Select the sample holder that is installed on your TEM from the Sample Holder list. Here, you have the choice between sample holders with one tilt axis, two tilt axes, or no tilt axis at all.

If your sample holder can't be controlled by remote control, select the Not used entry.

Configuring the interfaces

6.If you are using a side-mounted camera, you have to set the serial port with which the EMSIS camera control unit is connected to the PC (for example COM1). To do this, click the Interfaces... button.

A message will ask whether you would like to save your hardware configuration. Click OK.

The Interfaces dialog box opens. The Serial Port tab is active. The list offers all of your PC's serial ports.

7.Select your OSIS camera control unit's serial port.

8.Every device can only be assigned one COM interface. If you want to assign a COM interface to a device, you first have to make sure that it doesn't already have a different COM interface assigned to it.

Initializing your devices

8.Close all open dialog boxes with OK.

All devices will now be automatically initialized. All suitable devices should now be able to be controlled by your software.

The Device Settings dialog box opens. In the tree view on the left side, you can find all components that you have chosen in the device list.

Any possible problems with a connected device are indicated with a yellow warning triangle next to the device name. In this case, check the corresponding connection. Check whether the right TEM is selected and whether all devices are connected, for example.

9.You can define more settings in the Device Settings dialog box. For example, you can define the maximum tilt angle for a tilt holder. If you are using a TEM without remote control, you can define the magnifications, the camera lengths and the high voltage, for example.

10.Close the dialog box with OK.

Using the software

11.Now, you can use the Microscope Control tool window to set your microscope's magnification, for example.

You can find a description of this tool window here.

12.Use the Camera Control tool window to acquire images and movies.
