Morphological Close

Use the Close filter to fill out holes in objects and to smooth the edges of objects. You'll find the filter in the Process > Morphological Filter menu.

Exactly what happens?

This filter performs the Dilation and Erosion filter operations, one after the other. First, the object is enlarged, holes and scratches disappear. Then its outer edges are removed. The holes that have been filled out, and the irregularities remain invisible.

Comparison with other filters

In contrast to plain dilatation filters, the object size is retained when a Close filter is applied.
