bb_cut Cut

You can copy an image segment, or other objects, e.g., drawing objects, into the clipboard. Use the Edit > Cut command or the [Ctrl + X] keyboard shortcut, if you want the contents you have just copied to be deleted from the original document.

This command is only available when an image segment, or another object, has been marked.

Cutting out an image segment

1.Activate the image out of which you want to remove the segment, in the document group.

2.Activate the Toolbox toolbar. To do this, use, e.g., the View > Toolbars > Toolbox command.

3.Click the Rectangular Marquee bb_rectangular_marquee button on the Toolbox toolbar.

4.With the left mouse button depressed, outline the image segment that you want to cut out.

5.The selected image segment will be outlined with a broken line.

5.Select the Edit > Cut command or the [Ctrl + X] shortcut. You will also find this command in the image window's context menu.

6.The selected image segment is deleted from the image and a white space appears in its place.

What can you do with the image segment you've copied?

1.You can insert the segment you've cut into another application program, e.g. MS-Word, or paste it onto another image in your software. To do so, use the [Ctrl + V] keyboard shortcut.

2.You can create a new image from the image segment you've cut out. To do this, use the Edit > Paste As > New Image command.

3.You can insert the image segment you've copied into another image as an image layer. In this way, you create a multi-layer image. To do this, use the Edit > Paste As > New Layer command.

Shape of the image segments

The image segment need not be rectangular nor connected, it can be made up of a combination of rectangular image segments in any form you may wish for. You can find more information on this topic here.

Large images

Should your image be very large, use the Image Navigator tool window. Then you can have the interesting part of the image displayed at the optimal size in the image document, before you use the Edit > Cut command to cut out the image segment.

Appearance of the image on your monitor

It will always be the original image data that are copied into the clipboard. Therefore, when you have used the Image > Adjust Display command to alter how the image is currently displayed on your monitor, this will have no effect when you copy the data into the clipboard.

Undoing actions

You can undo the cutting of an image segment by using the Edit > Undo command.

Specifics for various image types

icon_tstack With a time stack the image segment will be cut out of the frame that is currently on display on your monitor.

Drawing objects

When you copy to the clipboard, drawing objects will not be included in the copy.
