bb_rectangular_marquee Marquee Tool

Click this button to switch to the rectangular marquee mode. You will find this button on the Toolbox toolbar. In the rectangular marquee mode, you can select segments within an image.

Before you can use certain functions you need to make a selection. As an example, the Edit > Copy command is only available when you have selected one or more image segments in the active image.

CursorSelection As soon as you have clicked the button you will find yourself in the rectangular marquee mode. In the rectangular marquee mode the mouse pointer changes its form when you position the mouse in the image window. You will remain in this mode until you explicitly switch it off. To do this, select another button in the Toolbox toolbar.

1.Click the Marquee Tool bb_rectangular_marquee button on the Toolbox toolbar.

2.With the left mouse button depressed, outline the image segment that interests you.

3.The selected image segment will be outlined with a broken line.

3.While keeping the [Shift] key pressed, outline another rectangular image segment. The segments can overlap each other.

4.While keeping the [Ctrl] key pressed, define an image segment within an area that has been selected. This area will be excluded from the selection.

5.The image segment you select can, for example, take on one of the following forms:

5.Use the Edit > Inverse Select command to select all of image segments that have not been selected.

Canceling a selection

A selection will remain active until you explicitly cancel it.

There are many ways to cancel a selection:

1.Click once on any part of an image.

2.Use the Edit > Deselect command.

3.Use the keyboard shortcut [Ctrl + D].

Note: A selection can only be canceled in the rectangular marquee mode. To switch to the rectangular marquee mode, click the Marquee Tool button on the Toolbox toolbar.
