You cannot write text directly into an image. Before you can insert text, you have to reserve a place for it. The place you reserve for a text is called a text object.
When you work with text objects, please note that you can work either in the text-entry mode or in the layout mode.

Text-entry mode
What is the text-entry mode?
Only in the text-entry mode can you write text and edit already existing text. In the text-entry mode, you can select and format single words. However, in the text-entry mode you can't change the characteristics of the text object, e.g. size, position and background color.
How do you switch into or out of the text-entry mode?
You will always find yourself in the text-entry mode immediately after you have inserted a text object.
To switch from the layout mode into the text-entry mode, doubleclick the text object.
Click once outside the text object to leave the text-entry mode, or press the [Esc] key on your keyboard.
How do you recognize the text-entry mode?
In the text-entry mode, the background of the text object will always be white. That is independent of the text object's current background color.
The mouse pointer has the form of a text entry cursor in the text-entry mode.
How much text can you enter?
In the text-entry mode you can write as many lines of text as you want. However, only the lines that are within the text object will be visible. All the lines that do not fit within the text object remain hidden from view.

Layout mode
What is the layout mode?
In the layout mode you determine the characteristics of the text object, e.g. size, position and background color. However, in the layout mode you can't enter text or edit it.
In the layout mode you cannot edit the text itself, only the text object.
What do you do in the layout mode?
You can change the size of the text object by dragging the selection markers. When you change its size, you only change the size of the text object, and not that of the text itself. Font type and font size remain unchanged. A text comprising several lines automatically adapts its length to the changed size of the text object.
Please note that in the layout mode you always format the complete text within a text object. To format individual words e.g., write them in bold letters, switch to the text-entry mode.
How do you switch into or out of the layout mode?
Click once outside the text object to leave the text-entry mode and switch to the layout mode, or press the [Esc] key on your keyboard.
To switch from the layout mode into the text-entry mode, doubleclick the text object.
