Shading Correction

Using shading correction, your software can remove image structures that originate in the imaging system and don't belong to the actual image information.

With certain cameras, you can correct shading that is caused by the camera during the image acquisition itself. You can find more information on this topic here. Use the Process > Enhancement > Shading Correction... command, to correct the shading on an image that you already have.

The dialog box that is opened when you use an image processing operation is made up in the same way for every operation. Click here to switch to a description of this dialog box.

Settings

For a shading correction, a second image will be required. In the Settings group, you determine which image is to be used to correct the source image.

Select the Automatic correction option, to have the correction image calculated from the active image.

If you are then not satisfied with the results of the shading correction, click the Advanced... button, which will enable you to select other parameters.

Select the Select correction image option, when you have, together with the image, acquired a suitable correction image.

An image can be used as a correction image when the following conditions have been fulfilled.

The correction image must have the same properties (image type, image size), as the source image. When both images were acquired with the same camera, that will automatically be the case.

The correction image must have been loaded. The Select correction image option will only then be available, when at least two images with the same properties have been loaded. You can then select the correction image you want from the picklist.
