Ultimate Erode Bright

Use this filter to erode bright objects to either one single bright pixel, or to a bright line. You'll find the Ultimate Erode Bright filter in the Process > Morphological Filter menu.

Before using the filter

This filter can only be applied to binary images. Therefore, you have to first binarize the image by using the Image > Mode > Binary... command. Otherwise, in the menu for morphological filters, this command is grayed out. You can find more information on binarizing here.

Resulting images

The result of such an ultimate erosion is a binary image.

You'll find the source image on the left and the resulting image on the right-hand side. The bright spheres are reduced to a few bright pixels by the ultimate erosion.

Exactly what happens?

When the Ultimate Erode Bright filter is applied, erosions follow one another, until one more erosion would create a black image. Bright areas are reduced to a single pixel or to a bright line.
