Overview - Calibrate Image

Use the Image > Calibrate Image… command to have an image calibrated after the acquisition. The correct calibration is extremely important for many functions. For instance, only when the image's X/Y-calibration is correct, does the scale bar for an image show correct values.

Tabs in the dialog box

XY-Calibration

The X/Y-calibration determines the absolute size of a pixel.

When do images need to be calibrated afterwards?

A subsequent image calibration may be necessary when, e.g., you load images that have been created with another application program.

Images that you have acquired with your software need not be subsequently calibrated with the Image > Calibrate Image... command, since all of the acquisition parameters are known.

When your software knows with which magnification an image has been acquired, the images will be automatically correctly calibrated. For this reason, select the correct magnification in the Microscope Control tool window before you make a snapshot acquisition.

Saving calibration data

It is possible to save calibration data. With the help of this data you can very quickly calibrate an image.

Use this option if, for example, you regularly load images that weren't acquired with your software but which you want to process with your software. When you make the acquisitions under fixed conditions, you only need to calibrate the images once, then you can adopt this calibration for all of the other acquisitions. You can find more information on this topic here.

Viewing calibration data

The calibration data will be saved along with the image, if you save the image in the TIF or VSI file format. You can view the calibration data in the Properties tool window.
