bb_lineprofile_settings Line Profile Settings

In the Line Profile Settings dialog box, you can specify settings for the line profile. For example, you can expand the area used for the computation of the intensity value and compute the mean intensity value in this area. The line profile diagram displays the mean intensity value of all of the pixels within the defined area that are at right angles to the line.

Opening the dialog box

Open the Line Profile tool window with the View > Tool Windows > Line Profile command. Click the Toggle Line Profile button, located in the tool window's toolbar. This activates the Line Profile Settings button. Click the Line Profile Settings button to open the Line Profile Settings dialog box.

Description of dialog box

In the Signal list, specify how you want the line profile to be computed and displayed. If you select the Pixel value option, the intensity distribution is determined by the pixel value. If you select the Gradient (first derivative) option, the first derivative of the intensity distribution is computed and displayed in the line profile diagram.

In the Resolution list, select either the Full or the Display entry. Select the Full option if you want to compute the intensity using the image's highest resolution. Select the Display option if you want to compute the intensity using the resolution of the display.

Note: If the image is very large, computing the line profile will take significantly longer if you select the full image resolution.

In the Noise reduction list, you specify whether to reduce noise in the line profile. Select the On or Off entry to switch noise reduction on or off. The list is only active when you have selected the Pixel value entry in the Signal list. The Noise reduction function is automatically switched on when you select the Gradient (first derivative) entry in the Signal list.

In the Averaging field, you define the size of the area that is used to compute the mean value. Enter the number of lines by which you want to expand the line profile's area.

With the Smoothing function, you can optimize the display of the line profile diagram and smooth big intensity fluctuations. In the Smoothing field, enter the number of pixels by which you want the line profile to be smoothed.

Choose a color for the line profile in the image window, in the Line color color palette.

Select the Update profile while editing line check box if you want the line profile to be constantly updated when you are making changes to it in the image window. If you move the line or change its length, you are editing it.

Clear the check box. Now the line profile is only updated when you have finished editing the line.

Click the Default button to return all of the settings to the software's default settings.
