Overview - Saving images |
|
When you save images, please pay attention to the points listed here. Saving additional informationImages you have acquired with your software always contain a certain amount of additional data. For example, the image calibration. This additional information will only be retained if the images are saved in the TIF, BTF, or VSI format. Saving images with drawings or measurement objectsYour software creates a separate image layer for certain objects, like drawing objects or measurement objects. If you have inserted drawing objects onto an image, you will have to use the TIF, BTF, or VSI format when you save this image. Otherwise the drawing objects will be irrevocably burnt into the image. Then they become a part of the image. All of the image data lying under the drawing object will then have been overwritten. You will then no longer be able to display drawing objects and image data separately. You can find more information on drawing objects and drawing layers here. JPEG compression for TIF imagesImages that you save in the TIF or BTF file format can also be compressed by the JPEG method before you save them. To do this, select the TIF or BTF file format in the Save Image As dialog box, and click the Options... button. Set the compression for TIF images that you want, in the Save Image Options dialog box. In this way, you reduce the size of your file while still being able to benefit from the TIF or BTF format's ability to save additional data along with your image. The disadvantage of this method is, however, that some application programs cannot read a TIF or BTF image that has been compressed by the JPEG method. Note: The JPG compression method isn't available for 16-bit gray-value images. The images will in all cases be saved uncompressed. For 16-bit gray-value images, use the JPEG 2000 compression method.
