Software configuration

What is a software configuration?

Your software's user interface can be freely configured. Some changes to the user interface are saved with the software configuration. This includes changes made in the menu configuration, keyboard shortcuts or the toolbars.

Working with software configurations

Use the commands of the Tools > Customization menu to adjust your software configuration to your needs, and to load, and save already existing software configurations.

Please note ...

Saving the buttons of a new toolbar

The software configuration always includes the configuration of all toolbars and menus, and all keyboard shortcuts. It is, therefore, not possible to define your own toolbar and to save the buttons for this toolbar in a separate file.

If you want to do that, reset the software configuration first. Then define your own toolbar, and save the software configuration directly after you have finished the toolbar definition. Now, you can use the Tools > Customization > Merge... command, at any time, to add your own toolbar to the current software configuration without changing anything else.

Software configuration and layout

You can show or hide toolbars and tool windows, and you can change their size and position. These changes will not be saved in the software configuration, but instead in the layout. They will remain available to you, even when you return the layout to its standard form.

You can find more information on layouts here.

Software configurations for different users

The software configurations are saved separately for each user. If other users should use your software configuration, you can provide them with your software configuration file.

You can recognize a software configuration file by its SCY file name extension.
