Crop to Clipboard

You can cut a rectangular segment out of an image and paste it into the clipboard. To do so, use the Image > Crop to Clipboard...  command. This command can be used for images of any size.

Your clipboard will not accommodate unlimited amounts of data. When you paste large amounts of data in the clipboard, the amount of data has to be reduced. This can, depending on the amount of data, take some time. Watch the status indicator. It will show you when the copying operation has been completed. Not until this is finished can you use the data from the clipboard.

Note: If you have used the Image > Adjust Display... command, to alter the monitor display, this will have no effect on the data in the clipboard.

Data in the status bar

While you select an image section, the size of the marked section will be continuously updated (in MB) and shown on the bottom left of the status bar. The percentage behind this shows whether the image needs compressing or not. As long as the clipboard can accommodate the image segment without the need to compress it, you will see the entry 100% there. Otherwise, you will see the percentage the image has to be compressed to.

Other ways of copying an image segment

You can also copy an image segment by first selecting the image segment with the Marquee Tool button. You will find this button on the Toolbox toolbar. Next, use the Edit > Copy command to copy the selected image segment to the clipboard.

In contrast to the Image > Crop to Clipboard... command, with the Marquee Tool button, there is a limit to the image size. The Marquee Tool button cannot be used for very large images (larger than 50 MB).

Copying an image segment into the clipboard

1.Activate the image that you want to crop.

2.Use the Image Navigator tool window to display the image segment you are interested in in the image window. The image segment displayed should contain all of the section you are interested in.

3.Select the Image > Crop to Clipboard... command.

4.With the left mouse button pressed, outline the image segment that interests you.

The segment you have selected will be identified by a red frame. The image segments that are to be cut off will be shown shaded.

The size of the selected image section is displayed on the left of the status bar at the bottom of the monitor.

5.You can still change the size and position of the image segment at this point.

6.Confirm that this is the image segment you have selected. Click the right mouse button and select the Confirm Input bb_confirm command.

7.You can now insert the image segment you have cut out, into another application program, such as MS-Word. Image information, such as the calibration data, will then be lost.

Select the Edit > Paste As New Image command, to create a new image window in your software. When you do this, most of the image information will be retained. The image will then, for instance, still be correctly calibrated.
